About Me

About Me

Sadly for the consumer, beauty isn’t taught like this anymore, indeed it all changed with the emergence of NVQ and, as I’m sure you’re aware, salons are 10 a penny these day!

Every college in the country offering beauty courses to anyone who applies and with cheap, short, on-line courses being the norm! In a yet unregulated industry it is hard for the public to work out who is excellent and who to avoid!

My qualifications:

  • City & Guilds Beauty Therapy 1988
  • City & Guilds Electrical Epilation 1988
  • International Health & Beauty Council Diploma in Beauty Therapy & Electrical Epilation 1988
  • OFQUAL Level 3 City & Guilds Advanced Nail Techniques 2001
  • OFQUAL Level 4 Diploma in Aesthetic Practise (microneedling, skin peeling & blemish removal) 2021
  • OFQUAL Level 5 in Clinical Skin Science for non-surgical skin procedures 2021

(PRO TIP: Please be aware that unless a ‘certificate’ states it is ‘OFQUAL regulated’ or it was ‘NVQ’ & issued before OFQUAL existed (2008) it is NOT a qualification and is therefore either an ‘accredited’ training or ‘CPD’ certificate of attendance. This also means that despite having been sent an insurance certificate, without any underpinning OFQUAL qualification, insurance will not be upheld by an underwriter!)

After qualifying I started working for Glemby International, a prestigious salon within Eaden Lilly’s department store in Cambridge. After a hectic year gaining a wealth of experience I decided I wanted to start my own business & work with products I loved in an unrushed and peaceful setting. Kirsten’s Beauty Rooms was born in 1989 above Strands Hair Salon in Victoria Street, Cambridge.

I was on the first ever Dermalogica training course in the UK, back in the days when Eve Taylor was UK distributor & trainer. (I also worked for Dermalogica back then, presenting at open days for new accounts.)

A couple of years later I moved premises to the outskirts of Cambridge and then in 1992, I moved once again to Chatteris High Street. I was the first ever beauty salon & I introduced the locals to Dermalogica, Aromatherapy, reflexology, Jessica manicures, acrylic nails, fake tans & slimming treatments!  I also taught Beauty part time at Cambridge Regional College during the early 90’s too, having gained my City & Guilds 730 teaching certificate.

After six very successful years on the High St, twenty five years ago I made the final move to converted outbuildings adjacent to my home so I could work around bringing up my daughter. In 2017 I extended the salon and now have a separate entrance, toilet facilities and waiting/ retail area. Parking is on site and I love the privacy this affords my clients.

Over the years I have stocked several skincare brands (Dermalogica, Eve Taylor, ekseption & Fusion.) It has always been my aim to offer my discerning clients the very best treatments & homecare available on the market, thus I have recently (April ’24) rebranded and invested in the Circadia range.  Wow! What a breath of fresh air! The very best continuing education with Circadia University and the most divine, naturally aromatic products I have ever used!

Circadia is an absolutely fabulous, results driven, American brand with an esteemed history in pioneering skin science & ingredients. With a philosophy built around the body’s natural Circadian Rhythms. Chronobiology, the science of defending skin from environmental damage during the day and stimulating internal repair mechanisms during sleep, is at the core of their concept.

Circadia’s formulations combine pure botanicals, stem cells, second generation vitamins & innovative peptide technology to achieve optimal skin health. There is a range of specialty treatment products to utilise these technologies, addressing a multitude of skin conditions, including aging, acne, dehydration, pigmentation & rosacea. Please drop me an email to discuss how I can help you!

The range is mostly vegan, with just the odd product containing honey, beeswax or albumin so it’s easy to customise treatments and homecare recommendations to suit each individual.

I am also proud to partner HYPO21! Hypo21 is a chemical free, pure hypochlorous acid (HOCL) which occurs naturally within our skin cells as part of the immune system, defending the body against harmful bacteria, virus, fungal infection & inflammation. Perfect for acne, rosacea, psoriasis, eczema, dermatitis, nappy rash, post electrolysis, waxing or can even be sprayed up the nose or in the throat when a cold is imminent! It’s unique and has just been awarded a prestigious MRHA award so is now officially termed a ‘medical device’. Ask for details!

Since 2018 I have worked really hard to expand my skin knowledge; studying for my L4/5 during lockdown & taking a course in the gut microbiome in 2020. I also recently started to offer Zinzino blood tests to discover how ones omega 3:6 ratio affects skin health. Changing ones diet is often integral in seeing significant and lasting changes to inflammatory skin conditions & it features heavily in my consultation.

I still offer some general beauty treatments but they are only available to those clients who have regular skin/electrolysis with me or book for both.

Click onto ‘Advanced Facial Treatments’ or ‘Circadia Facials’ to find out more about microneedling, chemical peeling, Radio Frequency, Celluma LED & Cold Atmospheric Plasma. A combination of these treatments & Circadia homecare can transform your skin or monthly facials can be enjoyed for relaxation & maintenance.

I have always been a holistic therapist and love to blend aesthetics with massage, so whatever treatment we decide upon, there will always be a bespoke facial massage element that can vary between 10 -60 minutes, incorporating deep myofascial techniques, lymphatic drainage, acupressure, Gua Sha &/or aromatherapy.

I am proud to be entering The Skin Games ‘24/25 (held in Atlanta March ‘25). If you would like to be considered as a case study model please make contact! (No you won’t need to go to USA!)

I am also a licensed ear & nose piercer, using the Studex system (price matched to Claire’s Accessories). An advanced aftercare lotion is available which means earrings can be changed within just three weeks.

I work Monday- Thursday 8.30 am- 10pm. (Friday at 2pm or Saturday mornings are only available if you are on a skin programme that requires 3x sessions a week.)

Pre-payment by bank transfer is required for all NEW clients at time of booking. This is non-refundable and non-transferable within 48 hrs of the appointment. If you fail to give full 48hr notice of cancellation you will be sent an invoice for full amount of treatment booked.

I do take cash but prefer bank transfer- please bring your banking app. I do not accept card payment.

I don’t have an on-line booking system, please make contact to arrange a call back to discuss. As I work alone, it is preferable to email or WhatsApp so that treatments aren’t disturbed.

Thankyou!
